Scripture encourages us to "choose life". Life as offered through Christ is not just physical existence. The life that Christ offers is eternal life. Eternal life does not just mean that we live forever. Eternal life begins at the moment a persons receives Christ as their Lord and Savior. At that moment the Holy Spirit comes into that life, changes that life, and that person becomes a new creation in Christ. The new life that person receives is one of assurance, joy, peace, love, humility, perseverance, wholeness, forgiveness, freedom, direction, purpose, and a host of other words which could describe this new life in Christ. But the Scriptures chose to use one word - life! Real, spiritual life. Not just existence but real living which can only come through Christ the giver of life and truth. Jesus put it this way when He said, "I am the way, the truth, and the life; no man cometh unto the Father but by me".
Life is about choices. As people get older, they can look back on their life and see that every decision they made, regardless how little, had a direct impact on how their life has turned out. The choice not to study for that test in high school, the choice to miss school, the choice to drink that beer, the choice to follow the wrong crowd, the choice not to study, not to try so hard, to do other things, not to apply themselves - even in the little or small things - have all added up to the person they are today. No one can divorce themselves from the choices they have made.
Many things in life we cannot change or redo. But there is one choice which is always available. The decision to chose life through Christ. If you have not made that choice, now is the time. Pray this prayer: Lord, I know that I have done many things which have displeased you; I know that I am a sinner. I believe that you died, was buried and rose again for me. I ask you to forgive me of my sin and to help me to turn from my sin. I now put my trust in you as my Lord and Savior. In Jesus name I pray. Amen.
If you prayed that prayer from your heart, then Christ just forgave you and you have a new life. Start now serving Christ. You are "his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works." THAT will be a good choice!
